Faculty Position
Following appointment of its new director, Dr Jonathan Slack, the Stem Cell Institute at the University of Minnesota is conducting a search for faculty, at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level working in the areas of stem cell biology, regenerative medicine or applied developmental biology. The University will devote competitive salaries, start up packages, and recently built laboratory space, with access to state-of-the-art core facilities. The candidate must have a Ph.D. or M.D., with at least three years of postdoctoral experience, and evidence of high quality research productivity. Applicants are invited in any area with potential for interaction with existing research programs (see http://www.stemcell.umn.edu/) and especially in the areas of 1) pancreatic beta cell generation, and 2) tissue, organ or appendage regeneration.
The person selected will be expected to develop an independent, externally funded research program and participate in the teaching mission of the Department of Genetics, Cell Biology & Development (GCD).

Assistant Scientist
To assist with the establishment of a service to produce and supply induced pluripotential stem cells (iPS cells) by carrying out the listed duties under general supervision.
Banking of cells and viruses. Liaison with other labs and distribution of materials.

Virus production Preparation of batches of retro-, lenti, or adeno-viruses for gene delivery. Includes titering and storage of viruses, and distribution to other workers.

While objectives will be specified, the person appointed is expected to be able to organize their own time and to carry through tasks to completion on their own. They will also be expected to be able to trouble shoot technical problems, although assistance will be provided when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in relevant biological science.
Practical experience of molecular biology
Experience of preparation of gene delivery viruses
Experience of mammalian tissue culture
Good communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience of embryonic stem cell culture.
Experience of microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
Working Conditions
The position will be based in the Stem Cell Institute labs in the McGuire Translational Research Facility. Work is in a laboratory setting.
