My thesis project is to determine the role and mechanisms of two related transcription factors, DMRT1 and DMRT6, during the complex process of spermatogenesis, from SSC maintenance to spermatogonial differentiation to meiosis. I am also interested in identifying genes that control pluripotency and proliferation in primordial germ cells (PGCs), the precursors to SSCs, using the Sleeping Beauty (SB) transposon system. The SB system is used here as a gene discovery tool to find oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) that can trigger germ cell tumors in the mouse.
